The drain on the Cooler, Ice chest, or whatever, goes to where? Just bought this H25 - 1978 and it's in great shape. However, past owner has the drain plugged in the Ice chest as he says it leaks. Well, if so where does the drain hose go, and how do you get to it. Maybe just leaving the plug is best. Thanks in advance.

Ice Chest

Where is your ice chest located? I have a '77 Hunter and we do not have a built-in ice chest, but sure wish we did! Steve

eventually into the bildge

The ice chest is located next to sink and forms the first step down the companionway. (in my 1981 25) . I have a tube that extends from the bottom of the ice chest to a location under the steps. The tube is held against the wall and is extends to a point higher than the bottom of the ice chest. Every once in a while I drain the water into a bucket. It leaks some and draining it is awkward and removing the cold water costs you in lost energy. leaving the thing pluged is not a bad idea.

BETTER IDEA

IVE GOT A 78 H25 THE PERVOIUS OWNER SEALED THE BOTTON DRIAN AND INSTALLED A SMALL PUME IN THE BOTTOM TOF THE ICE BOX.THEN PUT IN A SHELF THAT WOULD DRAIN TO THE BOTTOM.THERE IS A SMALL HOLE IN THE COUNTER NEXT TO THE SINK,I PUT A NICELY BENT COPPER TUBE FROM THE PUMP TO THE SINK.THE PUMP HAS A SWITCH MOUNTED ON THE RT SIDE OF THE CABINET AS YOU FACE IT.TO DEAIN THE ICE BOX JUST FLIP THE SWITCH AND TI FLOWS INTO THE SINK. WORKS WELL ANY QUESTIONS EMAIL ME AT SKIK24EVR@HOTMAIL.COM. DOUG

Drain Plugged

Most of the H25s that I have seen have the cooler drains plugged. Apparently, at one time, they drained into the bilge along with any food remnants, etc. that may be in the ice water. This leads to odors that can be quite noxious. The plugged drain ends this. However, the plugged drain also means dipping or pumping the melted ice out of the deep well. I am lazy and, as such, found an ice chest that fits quite nicely into the well. Not only do I get double insulation, but all I have to do to get rid of the melt is to remove the chest and dump it into the sink or over the side. Some lost space but have to take the good with the bad.....I guess.
