I have a 1995 29.5 Hunter with a 2GM20F diesel. I have heard rumors that Yanmar suggests changing the green colored coolant for another type of antifreeze. I'm wondering if this is recomended for my engine and why? If so, should I change the thermosat too? Since it's five years old now, I was thinking of doing this in the fall anyway. Thanks in advance for any info. Ken

Coolant Info

Here's some coolant/anti freeze info: 1. Yanmar reccomends changing coolant solution every 500 hours, or once year whichever is first. 2. A couple of coolant/anti freezes that are approved are: Texaco Long Life Coolant Anti Freeze Product Codes 7997 & 7998. Havoline Extended Life Anti Freeze/Coolant Product Code Product Code 7994. You should drain and flush the cooling system before adding either of these products. The color issue may have to do with winterizing. We use a pink colored RV anti freeze when we winterize boats in Michigan. The chemical formualation is much less harmless, better for the water when you start up in the spring.
