I have had a coolant leak on and off since I bought the boat. 2 years ago the water pump was replaced and the leak went away. Recently I have coolant in the pan. When I feel or look around the engine I cannot find any leak. the water pump is fine. Any thoughts?

Leak

When you say "pan" do you mean bilge? Likely a hose. Probably leaks under way, when it is under pressure from the pump and from heat. Have someone man the helm and then inspect the engine running at operating temp (after 20 minutes or so at 34 speed) with all covers removed. Use a flashlight. You'll find it.

Jeff: Thanks I'll give your idea a try. I meant the pan under the engine. Roger

dont forget

dont forget to test the radiator/coolant accumulator Cap and spring. It is designed to release coolant above certain pressures. If the Cap is weak or worn it will release at operating pressures.

Leak

Good way to track down a leak is to cut a piece of Kraft paper and place it under the engine. Keep track of it while under way....at least this way you will find out where the leak is coming from. Good luck! P.S. my bet is that it is the gasget at the water pump.....
