Coolant gushes out

My c30 has the Universal M-25, and it operates fine, doesn't overheat. But whenever I check the coolant level by removing the "radiator" cap, the coolant begins gushing up and out of the engine. This occurs even when the engine is completely cold. Anyone out there have any good ideas about what might be amiss?

Gravity!!

Robert, Have no worries because this is normal. You may want to check your coolent expansion tank mounted in the port side cockpit lazerette. Since the expansion tank is higher than the top of the engine coolent cap, when you remove the cap coolent flows from the tank into the hose that goes through your water heater and then back to the engine and out your cap! Keep the expansion tank 1/2 full to keep air from entering your lines. If this happens you will overheat. Tim

Possible gushing explaination

I found out the hard way that the engine often has air pockets captured in the coolant system. This has caused mine to gush, but more troublesome was the overheating, esspecially during the first trip of the season. i spoke with the techies at Universal, and it was suggested that I attempt to relieve the air pockets by repeated momentary racing of the engine. This did work for me, I found an easier, but grundy methoud. With the engine cold, slightly loosen the air vent (wing shaped, about 11/2 inches wide on top of engine, loosens by turning counter clockwise.) use your lung power to blow into the air vent, you'll send some antifreeze into the reserve tank. Now open the engine coolent cap, and add antifreezze as needed to bring the level up. Repeat this as needed, about three time. Remember you'll have to also remove coolent from the reserve tank, or it will over flow. This can be the antifreeze you add to the system. I do this at commisioning and run problem free all year. good luck
