"I read her book..... the real revelation was that it was truly her own project. It was her persistance and committment that made it happen. She alone, solicited sponsors and advisors to form the team necessary for this type of effort and convince her parents to give their consent to proceed. She washed dishes in a restaurant to earn money for airfare so she could join delivery crews and gain offshore experience. She spent every day at the boat yard, working right along side the technicians, so she knew every minute detail about her sturdy boat.
Not your typical teenager, this one. "
I read her book also. In fact, I'm trying to think of someone to donate it to who would appreciate it. Her focus was remarkable (at eleven years old, she determines this is her goal and tells her parents). I wondered how I could relate reading the background and motivation of a fifteen year old female. When you read the book, it's the least of the issue. It's all about personal goals & working hard to achieve them, and in this case an arena we in which we can relate. She has a gift for expression too. Hope she keeps her head on her shoulders.
