Does anyone have an idea how much it should cost to convert a regular hank on sail to furled sail? I will probaly go with a CDI flexible furler. I have had ones on my previous boats and they were nearly trouble and maintenance free.

Luff Tape Conversion

I am in process of buying new or converting some existing sails right now. Shurr Sail loft in Pensacola, FL is who I have used in the past, and have been very satisfied. They will do a luff tape conversion for $4.75/ft. of luff length. If you want a foam luff installed, the price goes up considerably to over $7/ft. Adding a sunbrella UV on the leech and foot gets quite expensive as well. I have a quote of $400 just for that on my 150 genoa. It would cost me well over 50% of the cost of a new headsail to convert my used one. I'm thinking of purchasing a good used one to get me by for now, and just selling my used hank on sails.

New Is Double

I just did exactly what you are doing and found the price of a new sail was about double the cost of converting the old. My sail was 16 years old and if I spent a bunch of money on it the sail would still be 16 years old.I plan to keep the boat so I went with new.

Shurr sails?

Yes I will contact Shurr Sails especially since the are only 50 miles down the road. My luck is going well I just bought a use roller furling today. It is a Hood SeaFurl model 915 and it already has been converted to a single line drive.(hood says to convert a double line drive to a single line drive is about $700) I bought the furler for $200 and it appears to complete.
