I own a 1978 Oday 30 and would like to convert my icebox to refrigeration

That's a project on my overly long to-do list as well. In doing some research, the one piece of advice I keep running into is to make sure that the box is really well insulated. Otherwise you'll just be wasting precious BTUs (that is, running the engine excessively or paying sky-high dockside electrical bills). The one thing I haven't quit figured out yet is how to beef up the icebox's insulation without tearing out the whole galley. If I do figure it out, I'll be sure to pass along the secret.

When I did mine I looked very carefully at the installation from Oday and found that I was able to remove the galley stove and have access to three sides and the bottom which enabled me to get one inch rigid insulation in the voids around the ice box and then I used the spray in foam for the places that I could not get the boards, I needed to make extensions for the spray foam out of plastic tubing to get way into the voids
This winter I'm going to add some more two inch insulation in the areas that are accessable under the sink and in my engine area and then cover it with a piece of 1/4" Plywood

You might consider a thermoelectric unit such as from Tellurex...there are others as well...I just cut a square hole in the side of the bix abd bolted it in. Very simple and it cools well enough, though you might want an actuall refrigeration unit w/compressor, i.e., more complicated. Good luck
