Converting from CNG to LPG...recommendations?

I am considering options for converting our on-board CNG system to something a lot simpler, like LPG. How hard is it? Is it worth it? We are planning on using CNG for weekend basics: Coffee/Tea, b-fast (egg omelets), nothing fancy, just basics... The tank on-board is older and pretty rusty, so have to do some replacements anyway. Thanks!

you only need to change the gas feed orifice size in the appliance. they are available at most propane dealers...
the flame size will be the same and you wont be able to tell much difference other than the CNG burns quite a bit hotter than LPG.... the convenience of being able to refill your LPG tanks almost anywhere is nice.

You need install a dedicated propane locker in your lazarette with regulator, solenoid,and lines too. You will have to install a thru hull in your transom to vent it. The solenoid will need a switch at your DC panel (or preferably near your stove). And a new stove.
Catalina Direct has what you need.

Bear in mind that your stove will likely lack the thermocouple switches currently standard for marine propane stoves. Since propane is heavier than air and tends to pool the switches will cut off the gas supply should the burner flame go off. It is no big deal if you stand by the stove while cooking and make sure the burners are lit and switches are turned off after every use. To me, these switches are just one of the attempts to "idiot proof" our boat systems but it is something that should be known when doing a conversion.

I did the conversion on my Hunter Legend 35 a few years ago. I reused the stove that came with the boat, but with different orifices. But it costs a fair bundle to do it right. Solenoids, hoses, couplers, sniffers, wiring, breakers for panel, LPG tank, regulators, etc. I also Tee'd so I could connect my BBQ. My boat has an area under the after strbd. cockpit seat that is open to the air, and drains overboard that was big enough to hold an 4-8lb tank. That's a big issue if you also need to make such a space.

All very worth it, but not cheap. It was a non-trivial job as there was lots of wiring and hose that needed to be fished through the boat.

I really didn't have any choice as all my local suppliers has closed down, and they were out of town anyway.
