The only reason I'm asking if anyone's ever considered or done this is that I'm wondering about removing the EV100 autopilot and installing an under deck linear drive instead. The EV100 works fine, but when it finally goes I'd love to not have that little gnk, gnk,....gnk,...gnk sound at the helm as it re-adjusts. It's probably a ridiculously expensive proposition just for aesthetics sake. I don't really know what it would require. I know, I know...just turn up the radio. Don't even.........

Linear drives are not inexpensive, but it was money well-spent for me to convert from a wheel pilot to the type 1 linear drive. You need a way to attach a short tiller arm to the rudder post, but not all boats have that kind of access. It's just a few BOAT bucks!
