I have a 27 Hunter (Cherubini) with 13HP Yanmar that has dual engine controls, (one lever for Trans and one for fuel) and a Tiller. I do a lot of solo sailing and wanted to convert to a single control lever since I believe it would be easier to handle.
Has anyone done this? Is there a model specific to doing this? Any pitfalls I should be aware of?
Thanks

You have two control cables which currently go to separate handles. A two control handle operates two cables. The only complexity in converting what you currently have is the co-location of the two cables which should be simple if they are both on the same side of the pedestal or mounting location.

Not sure if he has a tiller or a wheel. Depends on the year of the boat as well as knowing what type of engine and wheel vs. tiller as that makes a determination.

Why do people who bother asking if they don't come back to check the answers/comments they receive? More important, why do we waste our time responding???

Both cables go to same location as the dual lever is pivoted on same axis point

As a former powerboater, you get used to the dual controls. I'd concentrate more on making the sailing easier to single hand. I just added an autopilot and am quite pleased. It really lets me troubleshoot problems that are not reachable from the helm.

Thanks for your response. I am trying to improve single handed sailing experience. I know by sailing other boats that the single lever system is easier to use when picking up mooring and docking. I am 6-2 tall and the levers by my feet and handling a tiller get tiresome when picking up mooring.

Understandable. My levers are on my steering pedestal within easy reach.
