After obtaining a code 0 a few years ago, I saw the potential of perhaps running both headsail together. However, with the gap of only 24" at the tack and almost none at the head, the head sails were too close together to power up. This spring I extended the bowsprit to 36" and added a 9" extension at the top of the mast. Now the gap is sufficient to fly both head sails in winds less than around 9 knots. Any higher and it gets a bit too unwieldy. The additional power/speed is noticeable but I need to spend more time getting used to this set up. Another advantage of this rig is while tacking I only need to roll up the Code 0 as the jib continues to provide power during the manoeuvre.
