What kind of bad control are you experiencing?

If the motor "wanders", i.e. doesn't stay straight, then there should be a tension adjustment on the motor (area of the hinge) that can be used to tighten up the motor to keep it from "wandering" out of line and holding course.

cant steer and reach motor controls at same time

my problem is not being able to reach the controles on engine while steering the boat . I have a hunter 260 with tiller . and when bringing it back into slip my brother has to do the controls on engine while i steer. I would like to be able to do both ...thanks .Jim

Yep, remote controls are the answer...

just added them to my dad's H26. What kind of motor do you have?

I'm not sure if this is what you're talking about, or if it will work on your boat, but on my h23 I have a dowel rod loosely bolted to the shifter -- you might still have to look back but you don't have to reach back -- and the motor tiller extension is made out of pvc pipe. Looks better now than the pic, since I've Cetol-ed the dowel and put new friction tape and paint on the extension. Mac sv Boodle

Here's a picture of what has been suggested. Mine is on the stern rail, others have installed it on the starboard rail or attached to the starboard side of the helm seat. It also helps to install an "easy steer" connector between the rudder and engine.
