Does anyone know the length of the transmission shift cable on a Hunter 37C with 3QM30? My guess is 7' without actually taking it out and measuring it. TeleflexMorse cables are available in 6, 7, 8, foot lengths and I'm not sure which to order... Thanks! Jim Legere S/V Calypso

Measure?

Not sure why you cannot measure the old one with Jim. You know how far into the pedestal it goes and you can measure from the cockpit sole to the tranny connection. You'll probably get the answer from someone and I will watch for it. If not I can measure when I am at the boat next, probably Wednesday. If it were me I would order the 8 foot cable. The extra foot won't hurt anything and you could always shorten it. But even 7 foot sounds long.

8', I think.

I replaced mine several years ago and I think it was 8'. Longer would give you a chance to route it better. Edson has instructions on their website, I've been told. The faxed them to me, in my pre-web days. It'll save you a lot of work in the changing. Also, chances are, yours broke because in reverse there is no stop, and the lever will move the cable far enough to bend the end around the steering shaft. Installing a stop at the transmission end will prevent this, and Edson also sells a kit to prevent it. Once you have the compass off, you'll see what I'm talking about.

use old one

I replaced both throttle and transmission cables last month. Pain in the you know what. Attach a string to the old one and pull it through. Disconnect and take it to your supplier. They will measure it there and get you the right one.

Broke mine yesterday

Took my first sail yesterday, put her in reverse and broke the threads on the turnbuckle of the trany cable in the steering column. In addition, two of the bolts on the column extension below the compass broke off (screw extraction time).
