Continuous Or Discontinuous Rigging?

I have just purchased a 20 year old masthead sloop which needs rerigging. The current rig is keel stepped, 1 x 19 stainless and is a double spreader set-up with discontinuous rigging. Rather than just replace whats there, does anyone know whether ther are benefits in changing the set-up? Is the alternative a stronger option? Is harmonic vibration a consideration? Any advice will be appreciated. Kind regards

Do you want 1 point of failure or many?

If you put in a continuous strand, one failure will cost you the entire rig on one side of the boat. Not good planning.

Discontinuous Standing Rigging

...may be more reliable. It puts strain on mechanical components rather than on the wire when intersected by spreaders. Rod rigging is mostly discontinuous. This is a question that may vary by rig. You need the analysis of an educated rigger. Rick D.

Marc; The naval architect designed the rig that is in the boat. That's the best one for it. Replace all the wire in the same manner it was originally installed.
