Continual Traveller Line/Cleats

This is a follow up to a previous Post of mine on the topic, now shown installed. This Traveller set-up uses a "Continual Line" to operate the Traveller and utilizes double Cam Cleats on each side, one horizontal/one vertical. I understand both J22 and Megels use this system! I found it fairly expensive, to purchase the parts, so I made my own brackets. The big benefit of this system is you can cleat/uncleat either side of the Traveller from one side using the "Continual Line." Note, the Port Side using the vertical cleat, while the Starboard Side uses the Horizontal Cleat.

That is exactly what I always wanted to do to both my Capri 22, and 25.. NOW add my S2 7.9 to that list...

Very nicely done.. HUGE kudos!

What is protecting the line as it is directed horizontally? Do you have a bushing lining the hole in the metal plate bottom?

Jerry, you have a good eye! Yes, there is a Fairlead installed in the bracket. The J22 system uses a Block/Pulley in that position, but I didn't think that was necessary, added cost. The Traveler moves very easily from side to side, even under heavy loads with the Fairlead! I am still experimenting with the correct length of the "Continual Line," now about 12 inches to long. I am extremely pleased with the system so far.

Watch that you not make the line too short, what you wind up with is uncleating the leeward cleat when you don't want to..
I just finished my cascaded backstay rig on my S2... also put on my continuous traveler line as well. I can just upgrade the cleats to the dual angle ones at a later date... but the way the cockpit is on the S2 I may not want to... hard to say, but I'll let you know. The original backstay on the S2 was a split/pinch system, that kind of was lame (very little adjustment)... Also the main is roachy, so a flicker is necessary to clear the leech from the backstay... I am also replacing the backstay with amsteel.

I had to learn how to do a one ended brummel splice on single braid... that was interesting.

Do you have a pic of the fairlead that you could share? Just curious how it fits into the fabricated bracket.

Thanks,
Jerry

Jerry, sorry for the late response, but the first pics I had were not in focus and I had to go back to the dealer to get the pics. You asked about the Fair leads on the Traveler. I think they are actually Deck Fair Leads. I drilled one inch + size holes in the Alum bracket and used epoxy glue to keep them in place. The pics show both ends of the part. Price is $3.00 each.
