The O28 is great!
Stephen, I have a '79 O28, and the more I sail her, the better I like her. I was intimidated by the jump from 22' to 28', but the fact that my SO liked her had a lot to do with it. I have had the usual problems one finds on a boat where the owner has lost interest, the worst being a spongy starboard deck under the jenny track. A friend of mine and I braced it with 1/4"X8" aluminum plate and rebedded the track. During the off-season, I will see about doing it the right way. I digress. The boat came wih a tiller autopilot which has made single-handing possible. The sails are original, but there are budget considerations. First priority is properly preparing the bottom and the deck repair. This is a nicely sailing boat, has the 4'6" keel, tracks well, points well, but everyting is in need of inspection, repair or replacment. I did not pay a lot for this boat, which allows me a little leeway in repairs. She is very commodious and the vee berths ARE comfortable for two. You probably won't be dealing with the saildrive that I have but I would reccommend some sort of basic engine course, if you don't already have the experience. If the survey shows there isn't much wrong, go for it! Contact me off-list if there's anything else I can help with.Bill,O22 Closure, O28 Aroundtuit
