I'm considering buying a Pearson 31-2 to sail on the Chesapeake Bay, often by myself. Can anyone speak from experience to this boat's sailing characteristics in the Chesapeake's chop and how easy she is to single-hand? Many thanks. Al

Sailing a 31-2

Al, I have a 36-2 that I occasionally sail by myself with no problems. The 31-2 is set up just like the 36-2, just a bit smaller. The main and jib sheets are not idealy placed for singlehanding but it is easily doable. The wheel makes getting around the cockpit somewhat a chore, but it is easy if you have an autopilot. Almost any boat can be singlehanded once you get used to the boat. I had a friend that passed away last year at 82 and he singlehanded his Hinckley 48 right up to the end. Good luck. The -2 series is a wonderfull crusing boat, nomatter what the size. Dave

Singlehanding

I singlehand my P-33-2 almost exclusively here on the Chesapeake, and know lots of folks who own P-31-2's. You won't have a problem doing it. The 31-2 is a very nice boat.

considering buying a P31-2

What kind of rough weather can a P31-2 handle? I am considering buying one and plan to sail it to Alaska, Queen Charlotee Islands, and perhaps around Vancouver Island. Would be interested in your comments. thanks
