Beneteau 461 RI
My wife and I have been assessing and looking at sailboats for the past 12 months in anticipation of buying a used cruiser later this year or early next year.

The boats that seems to suit all our needs: value, equipment and price point is the Beneteau 461, followed closely by the 423.

I would appreciate any advise on what to look for when purchasing one of these boat or comments (pro and con) regarding these two Beneteaus.

We hope to be back on the water next season.

Thanks

I have a 10 year old 47.7 First. Pre purchasing, would be beneficial to have a good look at the through hull fittings and seacocks. My boat is 10 years old and the valves and skinfittings were simply substandard(typical mass production boats). Also the way they were fitted was disgusting. No backingplate just the locknut on thin fiberglass. Also had few blisters around the groups of skinfittings. I would make a decision to take all antifouling off and expose any defects on the hull and if any appear put it back on the sellers plate. If the boat is say 10 years old it is time to do that anyway ( sodablast/sandblast all antifouling off and new epoxycoat on) Cost you all up 10 grand but need to do it later anyway

Thanks for the advice. We had heard that we should pay close attention to the hull bolts as well and this is one more reason to do a very thorough hull inspection on a boat this old. We are not in a big hurry to purchase a boat this season and will be looking for a boat that has recieved a good bottom rework (documented) within the last couple of years -- especially since we are looking for a 10 -13 year old boat. See you in LI Sound.
