I currently own a '99 H240 that is getting too small for me and my family. I searched and came across a 1993 H27 that would fit my needs and budget. I have already read the archives and owners reviews, but still had a question. How many does it sleep. I have a wife and four children from 11 down to 2 months. How long is the V-birth? Does it extend to get bigger? Can two people sleep on the seatees? The boat I found is several states away and comes with a trailer which I need. How easy does it trailer? I have a 1997 half ton suburban. Thanks for the input Dan P.S. Is anyone interested in a hardly used H240?

Slip?

You didn't say if you were keeping the boat in a slip but if so I would look to the Hunter 28.5 or 28 which is a considerably larger boat whcih can be had for about the same money although older. The 27 you are talking about has a displacememnt of 5000lbs and is 9 feet wide so trailering it around would be a chore. Most people I know people that have tried dry sailing such a large boat, 25ft and up, soon get a slip and get more time sailing. If you look around you may finde a larger boat for less money that can used to pay for a slip. Just an opinion. Good luck in your decision making.

Slip, Yes

I keep a slip at Bear Lake, which is about 120 miles from home. I would only use the trailer to pull in and out of water and pull short distances in the fall and spring. I would not want to trailer sail. Thanks for the help. Dan

I have a 27 hunter 1990

and it is the same model as the 94. mine(for sale) has a diesel in it and my boat is not really designed to trailer due to 5000 pounds and the size and length of mast etc. Maybe those that had outboards could be trailered. As far as sleeping: the aft berth can sleep two adults and in a pinch one little one. The V-berth has an extension at the back of the settee that rotates up and can sleep two comfortably. The settee on the port side can sleep one slim short sailor and the starboard settee one tall slim sailor due to the depth of the settee seat. Two kids in the 8 or 9 years old range. I hope this helps happy sailing all 6 of you?

I WOULD GO OLDER

The older H27's are much more affordable, better built and way more comfortable. I would even go older and bigger. Forget the trailer and go for H31 or H30.

Older

I've got an absolutely pristine '78 H-27 (Cherubini) which offers us 6'1" headroom, the ability to sleep 5 for sure, with "little" bambinos, maybe via cuddling, 6 or even 7! But that's getting pretty close. Egad! If you've done it for a while on a 24', well more power to ya, but I need a little space. There's no extending the 6' v-berths in my vessel, however the quarter berth is huge, even bigger than I need, me hefting in at 300#. If you're looking for a trailer-sailer that will accomodate your family, you have a real challenge. There ain't none out there! Anyway, bottom line is that the older (more affordable) Hunters have just a tad more space below decks than the newer (more expensive) ones. What you're looking at will, IMHO, be a bit of a challenge. There are plenty of larger Hunters out there that will comfortably accomodate you that are perhaps a little older, but truly vintage. Consider a bigger boat, based on your requirements. Neil Smith
