Did you say

192 kbps? That's about 4x faster then dialup, right? And it can go anywhere there is a digital signal, right?

Jerry, that's a warm and fuzzy nav station you

have there! Nice. I built mine and it looks like yours, just smaller. What's your boat?

Raymarine

Seatalk is a propriatery data protocall used by Raymarine. Unless you use a raymarine software on your laptop (of which I don't know exist), your best bet is to see if you can get your GPS to send data signals out via NMEA (industry standard protocall), as most all software will read it. If that doesn't provide a reasonable solution, buy a $99 GPS

Yes Franklin,

Not as fast as Cable but quite a bit fater than dialup, enough to allow you to download weather charts and you don't need to be next to a WiFi hot spot. The speed should suffer in areas of low digital signal.

SPRINT VISION

I have used sprint vision on Port Aransas Tx for past 2 years. It works ok for me with best cost brake down. You dont need a modem card with the future dial software. Allmost no sprint service in Maine.I swiched from verison .Speed was so slow I would get kick off befor I read email.

WIFI works good in some places ...

If you mostly need access while in port, here is a good solution (if you are in a served area). Check beaconwifi.com, which specializes in wifi service to many marinas. You can subscribe in a variety of ways, from daily to yearly, and everything in between. Rates are reasonable, and the service has worked well for me so far.

Wireless

I am a happy user of Sprint internet for about two years now. If you have regular sprint service, the vision program is 15 bucks a month. Unlimited access and no other fees. Future Dial software and a UBS cable is about 50 bucks and your there. It is fairly fast, at 203Kbs. Not a DSL connection but fairly decent. I have used mine from Brownsville, Tx. as far east as Destin, with very few dead areas. So far has been dependable and trouble free.

I use Raytech 5.0 and it feeds using seatalk. If you laptop doesn't have a serial port and only usb you will need an Edgeport serial to usb connector. The others I tried did not work! Fred thanks for the compliment. I have followed you boat and website for years. You did a super rebuild! Franklin my verizon is 230 kbps! It really is.
