Last year we purchased and installed a new VHF radio. In fall we had to cut the wire to the power to remove it for the winter. Now it is time to put it back in. How do others wire it so it can be plugged in instead of cutting the wires each year? The red wire already plugs in cuz it has a fuse in it. So we need something for the black wire. Radio Shack, Lowes, and an auto store were not helpful. Any ideas?

I am surprised...

...none of them had a simple quick disconnect. They come standard on CB radios and I would think Radio Shack at the very least would have one! In fact I found one on their web site. http://www.radioshack.com/product/index.jsp?productId=2062212&cp=&pg=2&sr=1&origkw=Quick+disconnect&kw=quick+disconnect&parentPage=search Jack

A single wire male/female connector

should be available in the electrical section of every hardware store. Joe S

Why would you want to remove

an installed VHF? I suppose it's pretty cold where you are, but I also assume you do not remove all your other solid state electronics over the winter? Although my boat lives in a somewhat less harsh winter environment, it does get cold here now and then and I've never had any of my electronics fail due to the cold weather. Are you removing it for security reasons?

Use a ground spade if possible

Your radio is negative ground so you can just tape up the negative wire and use a ring terminal. There should be a screw on the back of the case you can use, best if it's on plated metal.
