Hey gang,

Im looking to explore the coast of Connecticut this weekend and was wondering if anyone new of any sweet anchorages or mooring spots. So far i'm leaning towards the Thimble Islands. My home port Is Northport by the way.

Cheers!

Mystic is a good stop... good anchorage way up in there by the mystic seaport. West Marine nearby if you need parts! Fishers Island is a very quiet harbor as well.

My wife and I always liked to grab a mooring at Essex for a quiet relaxing weekend. There was launch service but I don't remember the details. We never made a reservation and always found good availability. Good shore services and I think if you are on a Brewer's mooring there is a pool to cool off in. Essex Island Marina has a pool too but I don't remember the mooring situation there.
There are a lot of good choices on that coast.

West Harbor at Fishers Island. Good anchorage with excellent holding. Also a few moorings available from Pirates Cove Marina. (Orange Mooring Balls). Some rocks and out crops to watch out for so watch your charts but nothing out of the ordinary, You can take your dinghy to the dock at the Fishers Island Yacht club and a 10 minute walk to the small town with a grocery store. I also understand that the Pequot Inn restaurant reopened but have not been back there yet. If you want to visit Mystic you can come up the river and get a transient slip at Mystic Shipyard. From there you can walk to town or take your dinghy to the town dock just south of the historic drawbridge,

These are all great places an I plan on making a vist to all of them this season. However a few friends of mine have twisted my arm to visit black rock for the weekend. Looks like I will be anchoring up out side of the Chanel along Fayetweather island, as the dock cannot accommodate my boat. I enjoy dingy rides anyway so it should be fun. I'll let you all know how it goes. And thanks again for the other destinations.

If the winds every take you West, Great Captain's Island is a nice spot just south of Greenwich. It's also a pretty quick run from "the stacks".
