I will be installing a new house battery using an AGM battery.

I have a Xantrex TrueCharge2 battery charger. The charger has three temperature selection settings: Cold, Warm, Hot.

I admit, I am clueless with electrical stuff. I keep my boat in Buffalo, Lake Erie. Despite misperceptions, our summers get hot (well, ok, except this summer). Average daytime range from 70 to 85 this summer.

Is this what it's based on? I'd love to know the temperature setting I should use.

Yes, you are correct the "temp setting" is the environment the batteries are seeing. hot is 85is and above, cold is 50 and below and warm inbetween. If you have to err go with a cooler setting than you think. The worse thing that can happen is after summer is over and you have set the switch to HOT you forget and it turns cold and the charger cooks your batteries. Fall is the season to be alert in, spring not so much as all that happens is the batteries don't get a really full charge but then they have probably been just sitting there all winter so not so much of a problem.

Or you could purchase the temperature sensor for the charger.
