Bought a used 260 last year and after some great help from a fellow 260 owner, we finally got her in the water - then came engine problems et all, followed by hurricane Ivan, other stuff. Long story short, I've finally got around to getting her sailing ready (she stays in the water - I didn't have a vehicle that could tow it. At any rate, beyond cleaning around the water line, I had not cleaned the bottow - today I dove down to clean her up more to puller her out only to find a LOT of sizeable barnacles/other shells on the bottom - especially around the centerboard. Frankly, I'm not sure the board would now come down, and if so, not sure if it would go back up. How much damage/potential damage do you think has been done? I plan to put her on the trailer next week and take her somewhere for repairs/new bottom paint. Given the centerboard situation, what else should I ask them to do?? Finally, anyone from the Destin/Fort Walton Beach area, any recommendations for a boat yard for this type of work? Thanks all - I feel like a jerk for letting this go so long. Fair winds.

Was the bottom painted?

If so, you might consider hiring a diver to clean the boat in the water...he can drop the centerboard and assess any damage. If it wasn't painted, I suspect that you've got a lot of work ahead of you but probably not any serious damage.

No Place Here

There is a place in Pensacola that would be the best place to go to. Deckhands would be OK if you want someone else to do all of the work. I will ask around.

Deckhands

I think I remember now that Deckhands will let you do your own work but you must buy the paint from them. Give them a call but hurry it is about to become another condo.

Shalimar

Rick: Given you are local, any particular reason you vote for Pensacola over places at Shalimar or FWB? Thanks, Bill

I am Trying to Remember Why

I think it was cheaper in Pensacola but not sure now. A buddy of mine goes to Biloxi to do his I have heard good things about Turner Marine in Mobile. I wish I could remember why exactly I was leaning away from Deckhands. I do not remember even checking at Shalimar. My bottom was last done three years ago I touched it up this year on the trailer I will probably have to do it within a year so let us all know what you find out.

Deckhands is All But Gone

If you can get them to take your boat like tomorrow you may be able to get it done there maybe. Shalimar will not let you do any of the work at all The Boat will let you do your own work. Prices have gone up significantly since Ivan, guess all that insurance work pays better. The yard in Pensacola looked like a better operation. As far as the quality of work I cannot help with any of these places except for what my impresion was. I think it was Browns Shipyard or somthing similar to that they were right around the corner from Scurvey Dog.

Here is An Update

Deckhands will close on 30 June Tuckers "The Boat" charges $100 a day starting the second day The Fishermans co-op in Freeport sounds like it is going to be a good operation when it gets going but nobody seems to know anything about it yet Browns in Pensacola still sounds like the place to go.
