My brother and wife live on a 53' yacht, moored at the South Shore Harbor on Lake Ponchatrain. I have not heard from them since Katrina went through and I can't get any information from the authorities. Does anyone have reliable information about the conditions at South Shore Harbor, specifically? My brother's yacht was in a slip next to the Bally's ship casino in the harbor. Please respond if you know anything. 513-738-5869

Hope they are well

Spent many a good night at the club with Wayne. We have not heard anything yet. The photos of Orleans Marine and Southern are heartbreaking. Some rode out Cindy earlier and vowed not to repeat that.

Wayne is OK

Wayne is ok. I have been speaking to him since the hurricane. My boat is the motor yacht that was moored right across the dock from him. David

Scott, I know the boat you're talking about. Have you seen the pictures on google maps or noaa.gov? I had a boat there and a business at the airport. I'm trying to fly in to the airport to check on things as soon as I can. If I can get in there to check on things I'll write again.

It looks like Ballys moved through 120 degrees or so and wiped out that entire first pier. You can see boats piled up behind it. From the picture I have there are only a couple of boats still in the water. The rest of them are in the parking lot. There seems to be three big piles of boats. One behind Ballys, one in the middle of the parking lot, and the other in the southwestern corner by the bathroom. From my picture I can't see my boat but I have to think she's either sunk or in the big pile in the parking lot.

I hope they got out okay. We too are looking for photos on the ground level of South Shore Harbor. Our 23' O'Day was also there. Although she might have survived several storms that went through there i don't think she made it through this one. I beleive our boat is in a pile in the parking lot where we used to park but i can not find any clear photos to see where she might be at. Russell Young
