I would like to know if anyone has had any experience with the installation of a condensator that removes condensate from the bottom of the a/c unit. It is installed in line with the discharge hose that is discharging through the hull fitting. I would be interested in how effective they are and if you have had any trouble with them. Also, I would like to know where you got yours. Thanks, Rick

Condensate Line to the bilge.
This line has no pressure and uses gravity to drain. I would worry if one had a venture suction hooked to this line. If the outlet got resticted it cold force discharge to back flood the boat. On a 90°day and 100% humidity my bilge pump might cycle twic for 10 seconds to get rid on the condensate water.

The question was concerning a constantly wet bilge. I suggested a bucket in the bilge to collect the condensate and a dedicated pump for the bucket. The regular bilge pump will serve as a back-up but no pump that I have seen can get that last inch of water.

Rick, I installed a condensator on the AC unit of our Hunter 356. The system works by flowing the discharge of the A/C cooling water thru a nozzle before it exits the hull. The pressure at the throat of the nozzle is actually a vacuum which draws the condensate water from the A/C drain pan into the cooling water which is discharged overboard, The whole unit is contained in a small machined block and the installation is very simple and straight forward. I had a small problem connecting the 1/4 inch hose to the drain pan as you have to install a plastic threaded nozzle into the pre existing hole in the drain pan. The hole in the drain pan had a small plastic plug that had to be removed and the nozzle installed. This was a tight area to work in but I eventually got it done. The system works OK but does not totally drain the pan as when the water level in the drain pan gets low enough to uncover the drain hole the system sucks air until the condensate builds up again to cover the hole. It definately works better than filling up the bilge. I got my system from West Marine. It was not cheap ~ $200. You can e mail me at marcptk@optonline.net if you need more info.
