Concave bottom, port side

Greetings from Nagawicka Lake I recently purchased a 1986 Daysailor 3 and later noticed the port side bottom is slightly concave while the starboard is slightly convex. It is somewhat stiffer on a port tack and lists a little at the dock, but otherwise sails nicely. I believe someone in it's past cinched it down on it's trailer and left it that way for the winter. Anyone had such an experience and was able to effect an easy solution or must I live with it? Rich

Concave Bottom

My Daysailer was fair but my Lazer had a bottom like you describe. I attributed it to being cinched to hard on the trailer too. There really isn't anything to do to pop the glass back out but it can be faired. If you are really ambitious you could flip the boat over and use fairing compound or thickened epoxy to raise the low side, then sand smooth and paint. Personally, I'd live with it as is :) Justin - O'day Owners Web

Rod Johnson,

My DS II does same!

My Day Sailer II will sort of "settle" over the winter on the trailer, the bottom will pop out a bit over the summer (seems ilogical?). My boat also lists slightly to port, I figured it was due to the outboard being offset to port, but I notice that the boat heels less when I walk along the starboard side than when I walk along the port side. To fix the bottom corectly, would require hanging the boat by the gunwales, letting the hull settle back to convex on both sides, then figure a way to get it to stay that way (maybe poured in foam?), personally, I wouldn't worry about it! Justin had a good idea about the filler....but I'd be affraid that the filler would pop off the next time the hull flexed, possibly taking part of the fiberglass off the bottom with it. As I say, I'd just enjoy the boat and not worry!

I concur

Thanks Rod I'll take the advice of you and Justin and sail it as is.
