I was looking around the other day, and researched the spec's for some 120mm computer fans. Yup the big suckers. Well I found on that will move 110.5cfm and draws 0.5A. It was variable speed and included the speed control so you could adjust the speed/noise from 17-29db. I am thinking about building a new door for the night time while at anchor. If I used some rubber isolators /seals to reduce vibration from the fans to the lexan door do you think that a pair of them would provide a reasonable air flow through the cabin? Anyone try this? Alternate thoughts?

A decent Bathroom Exhaust fan rated 110cfm, can be expected to produce about 2.0 to 4.0 Sones. 0.5 Sone is roughly equivalent to 30 dBA (soft whisper) 1 Sone is roughly equivalent to 40 dBA 2 Sones is roughly equivalent to 50 dBA (rainfall), and 4 Sones is roughly equivalent to 60 dBA (normal conversation). We try to design building HVAC systems to produce 20 dBA or less, but 30 dBA is considered acceptable for most applications. 110 cfm of air through a 120mm dia. requires a velocity of about 1,150 Ft. per minute, whereas we normally try to design for velocities of < 800 fpm.

Doghouse, I use three inch computer fans in
cowl vents and drive them with a solar panel. All of those fans are very efficient and quiet. I drop a mosquito net over the forehatch when it is open at night and anchor far enough off shore to avoid the hoards of bugs that come out at night. You will need a quick disconnect for the fans if you put them in the companionway. Put one in each end of the boat one pulling and one pushing. Ought to do what you want.

I don't think you want one pulling and one pushing. I believe that will generate a steady airflow from one to the other. Like all window fan instructions say to push the air out so it will be drawn in from all open windows...generating airflow everywhere.

No, NewEgg.com is who has them. I like the idea of the variable speed so if I want to I can turn them down. At $13. the price is very reasonable when you compare it to the car fans. The boat is a hunter 27 so it is small enough. I am just working on a couple of different door styles to keep air moving and to make for a better cruising door.
