Compressor Replacement

Well I think the old Alden Barbour freezer unit on my Hunter 380 has locked up. My question is: Has anybody replaced their old compressor with a new one while reusing the lines and evaporator coils? Simple system with a mechanical stat and a spillover fan for the refrigerator.

Is the system R-134a? If so I think you could use a Secop BD-35 with a Secop controller. My boat has 4 of them (2 for refrigerators and 2 for freezers). The compressors must use a Secop electronic controller, which can vary the speed of the compressor to save energy. I had to replace a controller on one the the refrigerators and I still have to replace a compressor on one of the freezers.

I replaced mine with a Purswave compressor and controller from Aliexpress. After shipping it was a little more than $200.

Look over your Alden unit and see if is a Danfoss compressor if so it's probably just the power connections or the controller gone bad they tough units and last forever
