I am planning the installation of a 12 volt refrigeration system in the 37C. I would like to put the compressor under the stove. I know someone - possibly Ed. S. - made a locker there but I didn't find it in the archives. Does anyone know how much space there is in that closed-up locker space under the stove?

What type of unit?

What type of unit are you installing? It is best to have good air circulation around the unit if the unit is air cooled. The hot air that it expells will add heat to the cabin (something to consider). There is also sometimes a noise factor that needs to be considered. I would also consider putting the compressor in the starboard side lazarette. This makes an easy installation and it is out of the cabin (noise & heat).

this is what I did...

Spring of last year I installed the Frigoboat 12V system with the keel cooler, Smart Speed Controller and horizontal evaporator. I installed the Danfoss compressor under the stove area with the keel cooler installed about 2 feet closer towards the center of the hull (keel). I cut open a section (around 12" x 20") just underneath the stove and closed it up after the installation with a few screws for removal when needed. I glassed in a small shelf to mount the compressor. From there I ran the tubes to the evaporator up and behind the stove area back wall and then aft into the top section of the ice box against the starboard side of the hull, for the keel cooler I routed the tubes under the floor. The thermostat is mounted against the back aft wall of the stove area and easy to get to by just swinging the stove. Eventually I will cut open the counter top just behind the stove and install a hinge and crate another compartment. I mounted the breaker and smart speed controller on the top aft starboard wall of the galley area. I am very happy with the performance of the system. No noise, no fans, no heat. I can even make ice inside the evaporator. I will be back to the boat next week and will take pictures and put them up in the photoforum in the next few weeks.

Lots of space under stove

So cut out the front and make a door and use the space for compressor or something else. I keep pots and pans down there. I put the hinges on the bottom so the door lies on the floor when open.
