Compressor location and ventilation

I just purchased "the cold machine" and now need to install it. I see 2 good locations--#1 just behind the companionway at the top of the steps, and #2 in the starboard lazarett. I think the latter location might require vents in the aft berth and under the starboard seat in the cockpit. What have others done, and what works best?

Keep it out of the interior cabin!

Steve: These things generate a lot of heat. You definetly want to keep it out of the interior of your boat. The aft lazarette is a good location. We placed ours on the starboard side on our 1985 H'31. These models have those bumpers under the seats which allow quite a bit of airflow. We also built a dam to prevent anything that is stored back there from getting tangled up with the unit. If you think you need more ventilation you can always add a vent in the cockpit at a later date.

Starboard Lazarette

Hi, I installed our cold machine compressor in the starboard side of the lazarette, as far left as the lines allowed. there is plenty of ventilation there. and we have had no problems in 10 years!

Danfoss compressor location

When your cruising in the tropics with sea water teMps. above 75 degrees Install the unit in the cabin. The secret is make sure the air that passes through the condenser does not pass through it again. The heat in the cabin is not enough to worry about. Richard@Kollmann-marine.com

Stbd cockpit locker under the lazerette locker

I moved mine from the original position in the aft cockpit (lazerette) locker to a platform above the fuel tank. This platform is attached to the bulkhead (fore and aft) inbetween the exhaust hose loop on one side and suspended from the bottom of the lazerette locker. Keeps it out of the way, near the refer box, and has been working fine since 1991. I'm in the Chesapeake Bay area so it does work in a "warm" environment.
