Compression testers...

Went to the auto store and discovered that gas and diesel compression testers are different.

Went to harbor freight tools and found these diesel testers.
I can't tell if they will fit into the injector holes for the MD6A.
Can someone who knows anything about this take a quick look at these and see if they look like they will fit into the MD6A holes. They have various adaptors and list motors that they will fit into..

A less expensive option is to buy one like I did for about $14 at Auto Zone or Harbor Freight, I can't remember which place I got it, but it's a retro back to the day. It has a rubber bush on the compression end that you insert into a spark plug hole, or in your case the injector port and then you hold it against the pressure by hand The gauge goes up to 300lbs., so that exceeds the 275lbs compression that is shown for the engine in the workbook. If the engine has good compression, you'll really have to lean on the guage to hold it in while the engine is cranking. If it blows you off in both cylinders, compression is probably not the problem. Have a well charged battery so the engine spins over ok, and don't forget you'll have fuel squirting on you if you don't divert it in another direction . If you get a low reading in one of the cylinders, it could be rings or valves, and now the cylinder head may have to come off for further investigation. It just keeps on

Hi Pat,
I'm really liking your idea...

I just spent the night on the net finding out all about adaptors and gauges. So it sounds like you just purchased a standard gasoline engine compression gauge which goes up to 300 psi. The diesel ones usually go up to 1000 psi.

You know, i just now looked in the MD6A shop manual that I have and it looks like it says 23-25 kp/cm2 (327?355 lbf/in2).
That looks like 327-355psi to me.

If it is 327psi, do you think I can get a diesel gauge and do the same technique you are talking about?

The orientation of the MD6A in my Vega will prevent me from putting my full body weight onto the gauge.

ps. One idea I did come across that was interesting...
Some diesel mechanics will just take an old injector and have a compression gauge fitting welded onto the end and use that as an adaptor.

Does anyone know if the MD1,MD2, and MD3 have the same injector dimensions as the MD6A? I found a compression test adaptor that fits those engines.
