hi any one else had compression probs on the WS 32 mast through the deck/ bulkhead. sorted mine out by installing an impressively priced chunk of iroko down to the keel, but i,m not really 100% happy with it, i find it a bit odd that there wasnt a compression post originally, considering the boat started of in boston (usa) and ended up in the uk. I know this is nit picking but shouldnt the main cap shrouds be parallel to the mast to the chain plates.... one other thing , where do you install the on deck instruments, sat nav, radar, echo sounder, i thought on the stbd side,by recessing a shelf which could be locked up when not in use... i may sail her one day !!!!!

ws 32

all ws 32 have compression posts that I have seen.(mine does)- If not It has been removed the mast and shrouds are one of the outstandingly robust structures on the boat-Im not sure I fol-low the question deck intruments go around the starboard chart table (starboard of the companionway)-you could use the existing shelf or use the cabinet to close or lock. Take care, Tim

wandering bulkheads

It wasn't unusual for the factory to get the bulkheads out of place. Ours were about 6" forward of where they should have been. They located the chain plates by measuring from the bow so they were usually in a consistant position. Whoever installed your mast might have centered it over the bulkhead which would put the chain plates out of line with the mast. The mast and and standing rigging on the W32 are so overbuilt, I wouldn't worry about it. If it was a factory built boat, you would have had 2x4 teak or mahogany compression post. The load carrying floors that supported the post were typically a sandwich of fir 2x4s and subject to rot. Perhaps someone removed the post to repair the floors and never put it back. Aloha Peter O.
