Rough Draft Pearson 30 chelsea
I am looking to replace my compression post (made out of oak) for a pearson 30 1977.

The post is falling apart at the top and perhaps rotted enough at the bottom that it had lost about an inch in height as well is starting to bend. Anyone knows if the post is embedded into the keel at the bottom and if so how much. I need to replace it quickly and thought someone may know any specific lenght

Don't know specific length, but had to replace bottom 4 inches on 74 P30 as it was rotted out.
Must have mast down as you don't want that much weight unsupported. Bottom is glassed in- easy to cut around with Dremel tool to expose.
I used a car jack and 2x4 to slowly jack up cabin roof. Post rests on glassed in top of keel- you may want to have it rest on epoxied wooden shim or stainless plate to spread weight around.
Measure carefully-use red or white oak-grain running vertically. I made it a really tight fit-glass in bottom to keep water out and screw to bulkhead. Lower jack and go sailing- this one hasn't budged in three years.
Good luck.

I had one made for my 1971 Pearson 33. Turned out my post was ok but needed additional support at the cabin top. You may be interested in the one I have. Give you a good price. Located in Charleston, SC
