I was re-wiring a corroded wire that connected to the metal plate the mast attaches to. Can't seem to trace it as it seems to run into the bilge (this is a swing keel model). Any idea what it is for????? Also, the compression post sits on the keel retraction hump that the table bolts to. This location makes it just aft of the actual location of the mast step. Is this correct? If so, I suppose it's engineered that way. Seems like it should be directly under. Thanks for the opinions!

That wire goes to the a brass plate mounted on the bottim of the boat right next to the keel. It's suppose to take a bolt of lightning down to the water. Yes the mast is just forward of the compression post. I don't know why. You could contact Hunter and ask them.
