I've been using a 2X4 for a compression post for sometime now and I'd like to replace it with something more "finished" looking, preferably stainless steel. Best case, it would be removable so I could start using the center cusion to make the v-berths into one bed. I envision something that functions similarly to an extendable chin-up bar that can be expanded by rotating it to fit in a doorway. Any suggestions about where I can get a new compression post? Thanks!! Bull

Hmm

Bull - The phone book should give you a metal supplier. I would expect stainless to be expensive; I think aluminum might make more sense. I would be careful with the removeable idea, though. The compression load on the mast is considerable even when the boat is at rest. If you remove the compression post with the rig up, I would think damage to the deck would result. You might even put the stick through the deck resulting in a costly repair and the risk of serious injury. Justin - O'day Owners' Web
