Compression Post Block Rot

Anyone have an innovative solution for fixing a rotten compression post keel bock on a C-30? I know I am not going to replace it with wood. Why make the same mistake twice? They must have designed this nifty little idea (supporting the base of the mast with a piece of wood in the bilge) over a month of Mondays.Thanks for your help in advance. Tom Wingo

I did mine with wood

Becouse catalina said wood was OK If It was sealed with epoxy I found that my shower drain wasleeking under the floor and was never sealed when the boat was made.Antyway the bottom peace of wood was teak and was wet but still storng the rest was made of house framing lumber set in some kind of putty It was a week job at best. I used Iron wood bought at a lumber yard sold for decks.I used 3/4 " by 6"pieces by about 11 1/2 long cut to fit to the bottom of the bilge. I started with small pieces and they got longer to fit around the bow of the boat I made atop block with the hole in it for the mast wires and epoxeyed them in place then snaked the wires throw the new block then I made the bottom block one piece at a time with glass between each peace and tabed to the hull I drilled holes throw the blocks and filled them with epoxy so they can not rot throw thenjacked the floor in place and sliped the last block between the top and bottom and glassed over the frount .10 hrs latter Ifeltlike I had ababy. Thanks for your help John. I really appreciate such a nice description. Sounds your repair should hold up very well. How did you Jack up the post to put in the last piece?  I may use some type of plastic. However, I am thinking about making some type of Jack assemble with a 1 inch threaded SS rod that terminates on an upper and lower SS plate. I am still working on this idea. At the upper and lower plates I will have SS nuts that will allow for a small amount of upward pressure to be applied.  I think I have lost a half inch in vertical dimension due to the loss of the keel block.
