Compressed compression post?

Well I finally got my mast back up after rewiring it over the winter. She went up no problem. When I got around to tuning up the rig I noticed something that has got me a little worried. The door that leads into the v-berth area has a sliding latch that holds the door shut. Before I tuned up my rig, the latch fit perfectly in the slot that is carved out of the compression post for that purpose. But after I tuned up the rig, I noticed that the slot in the compression post had moved down about 1/2" and the latch no longer fits... Has anyone else noticed something like this? I know that the compression loads placed on the post from the tight rig can be rather large, but I am worried that maybe they are too large? When I look at the compression post it does not look bowed, so the hull must be flexed down the 1/2". Maybe the rig wasn't tuned up a tight as I have it now when the slot was carved in the post and the compression from the tighter rigging has moved it down some. To tune the rig I followed the Hunter Manufacture's instructions on rig tuning. I recently purchased a wire tension gauge and will measure the tension on the rigging and post that here tomorrow. Thanks for all your help.

Same Problem

I had the same problem and just made the slot in the door jam bigger. I ran my rig on the tighter side and raced 2 others 25.5's that had less tension on ther rig and I was quite a bit faster I think it's just the boat moveing and I did'nt worry about it thats what insurance is for. I'm sure you'll be fine and was tild buy hunter that the 25.5 were really over built I think the term was built like a Tank. If you see no evidence of the post looking bad My quess is you'll be fine. That's a relief

Hi Cliff, Thanks for your response. That's a relief that I am not the only one with this problem. You don't happen to know or remember the tension values in lbs on each rigging wire of your rig? Out of curiosity who at Hunter did you talk to that told you the 25.5 was built like a tank? I called them and all the information they had about the 25.5 was a copy of the brochure. I was astounded.... no drawings, nothing. The guy didn't even know who designed it... Thanks.

What were the tension values

Anthony, I just rigged and tuned my 25.5 for the first time. I, too, am unsure of the tension required for optimum. I remember from my O'Day sailing that if you go "Oh My God!", then the stays are tensioned enough. What were the values you measured? How did the boat react? I had my 25.5 out in 15+ mph winds on Sunday. The leward shrouds were loose, but that can be expected. I didn't see any sag or bend in the mast. Look forward to yours and others responses
