Compounded and polished the back of my Hunter 25.5. Used 3M products and both hand and power buffing.

On right of the backstay is the polished side and the left is the original. The boat is a 1984 and I suspect this is the first polish it has ever seen.

Should this be white? People at club told me it is original color - more of an ivory.

The people at your club told you right!! I have a 1984 Hunter 22 and it's color is beige, an original Hunter factory color.

Thank you for your reply.

I was worried I was doing something wrong
I have a 1984 Hunter 25.5 and did the same thing last year. Its an ivory colour. I actually wish it was white but at least you know where you need to polish. Mine was badly oxidized and I ended up using 3M foam sanding blocks before the polish.

Here's mine after many man hours

I'm sanding too. The lines on my boat are different. Did you fill in the upper stripe? Nice job by the way, looks great.

This is mine in condition I purchased it in.

There are various grades of compound in way of courseness with the lightest, Finese IT being one of the best in my books. I only used the paste vs. liquid. If heavy oxidation, I used the next grade and then the Finese It afterwards. One thing many do not do but is a must is a good washing of the area to be compounded first. Yep, I saw people compounding without washing the boat off first.

A creame color gel coat was standard norm up until 1985 when Hunter switched to white.

Its great to look at the before and after pictures.

The upper stripe it just stuck on, I use a "3m stripe off wheel" and removed it. Mine was broken anyway.

I am trying to restore the deck now, lots of oxidised gel-coat there.
