Compound and Wax This Fall?

I'm betting a 2 year restoration on it. Same thing here. Cold rainy spring maybe.

I'm thinking of getting the paint stripper out for the deck. Maybe hull too! Its that bad. Someone didn't do it right the first time. Its coming off ware it wasn't washed.
I'm dreaming of wax.....

Waxing ??? Maybe try this idea

Two years ago I was in the process of stripping the bottom paint and decided to try to do something about the area above the waterline on the 1975 Oday 25. I tried compounding and then three coats of wax in an area of about 4X6 feet adjacent to that area I measured the same area and used Polyglow.After three months of Alabama winter the wax was fading but the five coats of Polyglow still looked brand new and you could see you reflection in it. I decided to go with the polyglow and two years later it still looks as good as when I first put it on. This fall when I do the interior I will renew the outside because it is out of the water and the whole process will only take about three hours.

PoliGLow or Wax

I don't know about you but my time (and my strength) is somewhat limited. I have an 1983 H-30 whose hull was faded and in need. I toyed with compounding and waxing but decieded to try PoliGLow. While not perfect it did a nice job of bringing the white hull back to a reasonable state with only a day and 1/2 of work. I used the Poly Prep twice to make sure the hull was as clean as possible and then 6 coats of PoliGlow. The boat easily passed the 3 foot test. The shine held up well for the season but I do have some dirt streaks on the hull. I'll have to see how it ceans when I'm on the hard but I did notice that the hull did not get as bad a mooring brow (that brown stain right above the watrer line) as in the past.

I'm on a mooring and didn't have the opportunity to wash the hull during the season. I'm thinking of doing the cockpit next year with PoliGlow as well.

I did this once when I first got the boat. I couldn't stand the thought of the grime on the hull all winter. I still had a lot to do in the spring. There were marks from the cover (fairclough) and just dirt that got under the cover. I haven't done it since, so I guess I didn't think it was worth it.

Saw this forum and hope you guys don't mind me hopping on as am from Singapore!

I have had the same issue with a previous Beneteau that had a blue hull, the gel coat just seemed to dry and then chalk up so that it was a white/ghosted blue and not the deep blue it was supposed to be.

I used a product called 'Marine A Glaze' to do three things:-

1 - Remove the UV damage (white chalking)
2 - Polish hull to deep blue shine
3 - Protect

Have to say that this product simply blew me away with how good it was, infact, so good that i have not had to polish the hull since the day that it was put on....that is now nearly 18 months ago! The product is from the UK and in fact comes from the aviation industry, they put it on all the big airliners to protect them from the pollution and keep them protected against UV damage. With being one of the first (of now many) users in our region i have now taken on to represent them locally here, amazing product.

Now, before you think that i am punting - not my intention. I have also been in the industry for the past 20 years and have faced this same question on an annual basis, looking after yachts and their surfaces can be a frustrating and tiresome business - too many of my clients have been frustrated in the past with this sort of problem and one that i did not fully understand until i too owned a yacht! So, i have been on both sides of the fence and happy to say that there is a solution to the problem and one that does not have to take a long time to do....check it out and sure you won't be disappointed!

I use NuGlass on my C30. Similar to Poliglow. I've used this stuff for the past 10 - 15 years, my boat looks as good going in as it does coming out. That said, I'm not big on fall clean up. But what I do is hang old sheets all around the hull before putting the blue poly tarp over. As the wind blows, the tarp use to scuff up the hull over the winter. Using the sheets to protect, now when I take the cover off the hull looks great. I just wash it down and apply the recomended 5 coats of NuGlass which takes me all of 2 hours and the boat looks great!

What does this mean. I know what waxing is, but what's meant by compound?

compound = polish (this is what gives it a shine)
wax = what protects the shine

Last couple of years I have used 3M cleaner wax in the Fall (put on with a buffer cotton pad, remove with chamois cloth by Hand) and 2 coats of Meguire's premium wax in the spring. Very happy with the results. Beads up all year long. Sadly need to start the process again in a couple of weeks.
