Complete Pearson 26 newbie. Some advice?

Catalina Capri 18 Lake Champlain
Hello everybody. It has been a while since I posted. Long story short, three seasons ago, I acquired a Catalina 18 (Capri). I was pleased with the boat, learned the basics of sailing, introduced some modifications, etc..By now, I know the boat in and out. However, the small cabin was always an issue for us, as we like to go on overnight trips. This season we bought Pearson 26, 1972. It is an absolutely new boat to me. I have a few questions (they may be dumb, but please excuse the newbie) and wondered if anyone can direct me to Pearson-specific forums or people?

Also, my Catalina 1993 fixed keel is for sale now. If anyone is interested.

Thank you

Hey Monster,

there is a Pearson-specific forum…

I don’t know how active it is. You can try posting there…or post your questions to this general forum. Lots of experience here, even if not on your specific boat.

But if you can post photos of the issue, all the better since we may not know your specific boat.

Have fun with your new Pearson.

Most production sailboats do not differ that much from each other when it comes to systems and build. Asking here in Ask All Sailors is your best bet. Many SBO members have owned several boats before their current boat and some have owned a Pearson.

Except for the Catalina, Beneteau, and Hunter specific forums, most brand specific forums get very little traffic.

Congrats MonsterFish... Moving up in boat size (two-footitis syndrome) is a noncurable affliction. It is a contagion experienced by many new boat owners.

As you may know, many of the ideas and challenges on a boat are not limited to the make or brand of a boat. The solutions are also not brand-determined.

The Pearson is a classic masthead sloop built in the 70's. With over 1700 built, you will find other owners to connect with. I suspect Facebook has a group of owners to join.

The systems on a Pearson are similar to many boats built around that era. Give us a shot when you encounter a challenge; you may get the necessary answer from one of the members who have sailed on a Pearson.
