I am looking for an afordable compass for my Hunter 170. I am going to mount it on the mast and I want it to read at a 45 degree heel. Does anyone have any suggestions?

Brian, Pep Boys carries a car compass...

that should work for your needs. Easy to mount and works at most angles. Not sure about 45 degrees. Terry

Boy Scout Compass

I have some friends that temporarily used their son's Boy Scout compass and had no problem navigating. Not only that, it was portable. But, ideally, I would prefer a marine-designed compass. I'll bet there are many out there. Check a hiking/outdoors shop for one that "floats", as you requested.

The traditional BS compass must be level...
