Edson had two different sizes on their binnacles, something like 5", and 6". If yours is the older style pedestal, that has flat headed bolts holding the pedestal to the floor, it's the smaller one. I was the Ritchie HF-743 commonly, that had a 6 7/8" diameter binnacle. The old style ped is the Classic series, style 336.

Depending upon what broke, you might consider rebuilding your compass. I completed this project last year at a cost of about $75 with new gaskets, new globe and fluid, which is less than half of the cost of a new compass. Edson sells all of the parts to complete a rebuild and its amazing how new an old compass will look when you've completed the project. It only takes about an hour to complete, faster than my hour trip to WM and back for a new compass.

Viking (see Kloudie's link) rebuilt my pedestal compass after the globe cracked. Did a good job at a reasonable price--far cheaper than an equivalent replacement.

Contact Nor-Cal Compass in Novato, Ca. He does good work. The repair is usually about 50% of the cost of a new one and they look like new when you get them back.

If you call him, he will let you know if it is worth fixing too.
