I have a 33 ft. Hunter 1982
It is a helm steering boat, I got it without the compass.
Where would I look for one that will fit on the pedestal?
What is the size I need? It measures 7 inches across, but would need to fit into the screws already there
Anyone can help?

Compass mounting

Almost every compass model and manufacturer will have slightly different mounting holes. Measure the diameter of the top opening in the Binnacle (usually a fiberglass casting). Go on-line and check out some manufacturer's models and sizes based on the size of the opening (may be 4.5"to 5" typical for an outer flange diameter of maybe 6-1/4"). Print out the mounting hole templates and compare to what you have before you buy, but you are likely to need to drill new holes for self tapping mounting screws if the existing locations are not a perfect match. Be absolutely sure to mount the compassperfectly alligned fore and aft.
I tied a string to the mast and stretched it aft across the binnacle to pencil mark the centerline fore and aft before measuring and drilling the mounting holes from the template.

Thank you for your help
I need all the assistance I can get, amazing how at 46 I got the bug to sail...maybe because I am portughuese, and we were no starnger to the seas...we only discovered half the world, I guess... in the sense that we got there at some time, nothing has ever been really discovered...there were indians in Brasil when we arrived there in 1500

go to Richie the compass maker they have website that has all the dimensions /profiles for their compass styles. I Figure you'd go for the Globemaster model flushmount . there's a lip on the housing that should extend beyond the existing hole - the lip could cover the existing screw holes. I just put a Ritchie "Voyager" on my H28.5 which has a small diameter merriman pedistall - the holes didn't line up with the original Danforth's holes but the lip covered them..
goto the following >see products > by mounting styles and see dimensions
