I'm thinking about installing a smaller compass at the nav station, mainly as a back up to glance at while underway, also to be able to look at night while at anchor. There are several models to choose, suggestions, especially since I have to install on the port side or the head bulkhead. Any possible problems?

good idea

I've got a gimballed compass at my nav station and find it to be very useful. The problem for me was to locate it far enough from the electrical panel so that magnetic fields from all the current passing through wouldn't make it impossible to correct the compass.

Hi Bob, WM carries a hand held model....

that works great. Even lights up in night vision red. It's called their Hand Bearing Compass, model number 108258 (illuminated version). That way you can use it anywhere on the boat. Even take it to berth with you. Terry
