Compas deviation

I've heard the beer can story before. That really dates you though, they quit using steel in 1960 something. I am old enough to remember those cans though.

Sure does (I need super lube to stop bones creaking). But I had to move a 16 oz cold Coor's Light 10 days ago.
I admit it was a minor change on my Richie Steering compass and so was my Yeti cold glass.
Like is said it must be the iron in the beer!:confused:

PS: iDevices, megaphone, Battery operated stuff, etc all cause a deviation.

Find two points of land in transit, or a set of range lights, compare your compass to get total error, then subtract your variation from the chart and you will see what your deviation truly is. You need to do this on several headings to built a simple deviation card for your vessel. it's a bit of a pain, but a good exercise in pilotage...good luck
