Hunter 260 Lake Jocassee
What is the unusually shaped compartment in bow area of Hunter 260 for? Cannot determine its purpose but must have specific purpose due to its unusual shape. It is in front of compartment with water tank is only about 5-6 inches deep. Maybe since I am new to sailboats I am just ignorant but I would like to learn.

Welcome to sailing and to this forum. My First Mate and I have wondered the same thing. That space is amazingly table-top-shaped. But there's no table, no support and no place for a table to be used. Crazy Dave Condon will be the one to answer this question. He knows everything there is to know about Hunter water ballast boats. Seriously. He's da man.

Oh, I want to trailer mine up to Jocassee sometime. How's the sailing?

We just got boat and she is sitting in yard right now having work done-putting VHF, radio and speakers, chart plotter and new engine. Jocassee is a beautiful lake and have seen people sailing but with fairly small boats. Since there are not many houses on Jocassee and has no marina not many larger sailboats are seen. Lake Keowee has many more sailboats because of all the houses plus marinas. We are looking forward to learning more about the sailing. My husband and I sailed a hard deck catamaran years ago so we have to learn something first. Are wanting to do some traveling down intercoastal waterway both sides of Florida and other trips so Jocassee will be our learning lake. All our experience on Jocassee so far has been with 21 foot center console. It can have some fairly rough water at times.

The h26 used the compartment in the bow to store a cockpit table and support. The compartment for the same is was left on the h260 but there isn't any provision for a cockpit table with the wheel helm. Just a hold over from the h26.

Ronnie is correct. It is a hold over as the cockpit table was no longer provided as the cockpit deck had changed for the addition of the wheel steering which anyone could supply their own table if they wanted one. Also, it would have cost a lot to remold that part to be flat. Yes folks, it does cost a lot to build a new mold.

SCMermaid,

You will find that Crazy Dave really is the go-to man for all things Hunter water ballast. The rest of us know a few things, too. I've learned a "boatload" of information, tips and tricks from Uncle Crazy Dave. He's incredibly generous with his time and knowledge. I'm pretty sure you'll find that out for yourself soon enough.
