Hi all;

Have a sliding plexiglass top sliding cover that makes the most blood curdling screech I have ever heard. In the early am no matter how slowly or carefully I slide it. I think it awakens all in the marina. Have tried lubricating the aluminum rails it slides on with all kinds of sprays to no avail.

Any fixes? Thanks. Ilan

Had the same problem on my new Hunter 45CC: the cover where the sliding plexiplass moves in had to be removed and the sliding portion had to be sanded down. Hope it helps!

The hatch also has a wooden slider at the very back of the plexiglass that rests directly on the fiberglass under the seahood. Perhaps you can spray in the gap under the plexiglass. If that doesn't work, here is the link that describes a more labor intensive solution.

Excellent; I think this is the solution because the noise comes from deep inside the hood rather than the aluminum rails. Ilan

I rubbed lanolin on both surfaces - no more screeching

Great link, Allan, Thanks. I pulled my sea hood back around 2000. cleaned under there and removed the wood stop since the slider is captured by the "horns" on the aft end of the hood. I have to replace my slider now and will be pulling the hood again when it gets a bit cooler outside! I haven't decided yet if I am going to put the wood "stop" back on or not.. The only thing it may do is provide a little support to the forward end of the slider when it is fully open? I think I'll leave it out.. The original one had cracked and occasionally after a rain, the loose piece would jam the slider and not allow it to open more than a few inches..

Hi Claude,

Glad that helped. You never know what may turn up out there when searching the inter web. I haven't had to pull mine yet, but I think its in my future. Interesting that you were able to forego the wood at the end of the Plexiglass. Maybe rather than installing something again on the slider you could consider attaching a couple of ramped supports onto the cabin top way forward. That way the slider could slip up on them and be supported when open. Maybe Starboard or UHMW? With your current config, can the "horns" be deflected enough to slide the hatch out without so much dis-assembly?
