We have a Catalina 25 with a leaking companionway sliding hatch. The fiberglass edges that slide in the wood rails are worn thin and are sagging. We have a gap between the slider and the cabin top at the forward edge of the when shut and it's leaking. The aft corners don't seem to fill the gap between the slider and the hatch board and it leaks there too. Has anyone had and fixed these problems? Any help would be great! Thanks! Is this an odd problem?

Is this an odd problem? This is our first sailboat we have had together and we are trying to make her very very nice. We love to sail and love our boat. We love the water also, but would like to keep as much of it as possible on the outside of the cabin. :) I guess nobody else has had this problem or I'm not describing it very well. Thanks anyway, Sharon

It is the weekend and most of these folks are sailing. I have not had this problem myself. Have you tried clicking on "archive" and doing a search for this problem?

Question?

What year was your boat made? I assume it's the pop-top version. I assume your talking about rain water, or is it waves and spray that is the source of your water? My 1984 model had no leaking problems in the hatch area. I can't remember specifically, but I think the water is supposed to drain off the slider and channel its way out. I will look at a C25 tomorrow that's on the next dock over, to refresh my memory, so that I might get a better idea of what the problem and solution is. And yes, it often takes a few days for the right people to see your post. Be patient. And before Stu says it, check with the forum at http://www.catalina-capri-25s.org/forum/forum.asp?FORUM_ID=3

Companion way canvas cover

I bought my Catalina 27 last summer and it came with a canvas cover that you put over the doors, attached at the top on the slider. I checked here in their product department and didn't find anything, and I checked Catalina Direct for the same with no luck. It looks like something that cost around $35. I'm not sure of all your leaks, but you can take your slider off and work on the edges.
