My 356 did not come with the original lock, which appears to be this one here made by Southco:

I just built new hatchboards made from 1/2" Starboard and am trying to figure out the best approach to installing a lock. Was thinking about going back to the original setup, but it's not clear to me how this actually worked. Does anyone have pictures, or maybe just an explanation?

Open to other ideas as well.

Hasp attaches to uppermost hatch board. When properly installed and locked, hasp hides its fasteners under its fold.

justsomeguy, is correct,
Standard hasp.
Sliding hatch slids over the top hatch board to keep rain out. Then attach the hasp to the sliding hatch then opposite hasp hardware will attach to the top of the hatch board.

Most hatch board the bottom edge is cut on an angle so water drains outward.
